Byzantine Music Qualification • Gregorian Music Qualification

As part of the Degree in Sacred Music you are encouraged to deepen your knowledge of the world of sacred chant in an academic setting that stimulates achievement and speeds you on your way to a successful career. Over the course of your three-year degree, you will develop the skills required in order to understand and accurately perform religious music. The specialist courses are taught by nationally and internationally outstanding professors and researchers in the areas of Byzantine and Gregorian performance, composition, and musicology.

On the university campus, you will have access to a wide range of high-quality educational services and resources. Studying Sacred Music, you will have access to an extensive digital archive of manuscripts that is unique in this part of Europe and which includes printed materials and unpublished musical scores, books and articles, as well as an impressive collection of musical recordings made by leading performers of sacred chant. You will also have the opportunity to be an active member of Psalmodia, our prestigious Byzantine music ensemble.

Thanks to opportunities for international travel such as those that are part of the Erasmus + programme, you will be able to access practical and research internships at university centres such as Athens and Thessaloniki, under the supervision of leading figures in the field.

Facultative modules and subjects

  • The module I DPPD (level 1 diploma). During the years of studies, the students have the possibility to attend the courses belonging to the Department for Training the Teaching Staff (in Romanian, DPPD), level 1: Psychology of the Educational Process; Basis of Music Pedagogy; Theory and Methodology of the Curricula; Theory and Methodology of Teaching; Class Management; Didactics Applied to Music; Computer Assisted Training; Pedagogical Practice in Compulsory Pre-Higher Education. The graduation of these courses certifies the students’ right to teach music for secondary school students, within the general and music educational system.
  • Classical composition module, Jazz module and Pop module.
  • Other subjects: Instrument/Singing; Music Production (Mixing and Editing) in the Studio; Gamelan Ensemble; Creative Writing; Speech and Communication; etc.
